A former teacher and coach with the Forsyth County School System was arrested Friday on allegations related to the possession of child pornographic material.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Unit recently received a tip from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children about online sexual exploitation of a child.

A press release from the Forsyth Sheriff's Office revealed that the tip identified the suspect as James Andrew “Drew” Cecil, 38, of Cumming, who at the time was a teacher at Poole’s Mill Elementary School.

Cecil was taken into custody Friday afternoon without incident.  He was taken to the Forsyth County Jail and was held on $55,200 bond on several counts of alleged possession of child pornography and one count of child exploitation.

In the release, the Forsyth County School System stated, “James Andrew 'Drew' Cecil taught and coached volleyball at North Forsyth High School from 2016-21, and taught 4th grade at Poole’s Mill Elementary School since 2021."

"He has not been at school since April 14 when we were made aware of the allegations against him.  As of April 21, he is no longer employed with Forsyth County Schools."
