Georgia State Representative Matt Dubnik Tuesday was appointed by Speaker Jon Burns to serve as a member of the House Working Group on Early Childhood Education.
Dubnik also currently serves as the chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Education. In tandem when his new appointment, he sits on the Higher Education, Juvenile Justice, Small Bussiness Development and Urban Affairs committees, to name a few.
“I am extremely passionate about education public policy and am grateful to Speaker Burns for appointing me to this working group to look at pre-K education in our state,” Dubnik said. “Pre-K education is crucial for children’s development and lays the foundation to their future academic and social success. Not only does Pre-K prepare children from their elementary school years, but it also gives them a head start on cognitive development, socialization and emotional development. I’m honored to join this group of legislative experts as we dive into this important issue for the remainder of the year.”
The Early Childhood Education working group focuses on policies that expand access to pre-Kindergarten education and improve its effectiveness.
The group is chaired by Speaker Pro Tempore Jan Jones (R-Milton). Along with Dubnik, other members of the group include Representatives Chris Erwin (R-Homer), Carl Gillard (D-Savannah), Todd Jones (R-South Forsyth).
Rep. Dubnik was first elected in 2016 to represent District 29, which covers large portions of Hall County, in the Georgia House of Representatives. He was reelected in November 2023 and his current term will conclude in 2025.
