Former Forsyth County District 1 Commissioner and Vice-Chairwoman Molly Cooper died Wednesday following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Cooper was elected as District 1 commissioner in 2018 to serve a term from 2019 to 2021. She was later selected by the Board of Commissioners to serve as a secretary in 2020 and vice-chairwoman in 2021 and 2022. Due to ongoing health issues at the time, Cooper elected not to pursue a second term in office.

“Our hearts go out to the Cooper family at this difficult time,” Forsyth County Manager David McKee said. “We will forever remember the many contributions former Commissioner Cooper made to the County, including dutifully serving with professionalism, integrity, humility and compassion despite fighting cancer during most of her term as commissioner.”

As a Forsyth resident for the past 30 years, Cooper served as President of the Republican Women of Forsyth County and president of the civil community service group, Civitan. She was also the first vice-chair of the Forsyth County GOP. Previously, Cooper also owned and operated a local home accessories business for 16 years.

Cooper ran for the District 1 seat on the Republican platform in 2018. Her stated goals were to promote growth in Forsyth County, protect local taxpayers, reduce traffic congestion and address overcrowded schools.

Memorial services in Cooper’s honor will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday, followed by a burial service at Kennesaw Memorial.
