Girls soccer: Bluff knocks off Johnson in battle for 1st in 8-4A; Lakeview gets 1st win of the season

OAKWOOD, Ga. — In the first of two major battles for first place in Region 8-4A, No. 2 Cherokee Bluff held off Johnson 4-0 on Friday at The Dungeon.

The win for the Lady Bears (12-1, 6-0 Region 8-4A) was their 10th straight and it was the eighth shutout of the season for Avery Fowler and the Bluff defense, which only allowed one shot on goal.

The loss for the Lady Knights (7-3-1, 5-1 Region 8-4A) snapped their five-match win streak and dropped them into third place.

Kaitlin Cook had two goals  and two assists to pace the Bluff offense. Alyssa Stringer and Amelia Dovie each had a goal and an assist for the Lady Bears.

Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday in Region 8-4A play. Cherokee Bluff will play host to East Hall while Johnson will travel to East Forsyth.

The Lady Lions girls picked up their first win of the season at the right time Friday night.

Annie Nivens scored twice and Addi Graham scored one for Lakeview (1-4, 1-0 GIAA 3A/4A). Sadie Leek dished out 3 assists for the Lady Lions.

Lakeview next will travel to Stephens County on Monday.
