The Hall County Sheriff's Office arrested a Gainesville man Tuesday and charged him with seven child pornography-related offenses.
According to a press release from the agency, Alan Neil Thur, 75, remained in the Hall County Jail without bond as of Wednesday afternoon.
The agency said an investigation into the matter started on Feb. 27 when Hall County investigators received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. That investigation culminated Tuesday morning when the agency executed a search warrant at Thur's home in the 1400 block of Bluff Valley Circle. Deputies arrested Thur at the home without incident.
An initial investigation allegedly found Thur uploaded at least one image of child pornography to a search engine on Nov. 7, 2022. He was charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor for that incident, one each for possession and distribution of the image.
Thur faces five additional counts of sexual exploitation of a minor in connection with the March 14 search warrant.
"As deputies carried out the search, Thur was viewing five images of child pornography on his computer," the release reads. "The GBI Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit assisted in the search, conducting forensic processing on Thur’s computer."
The case remains under investigation.
