Soccer: Lumpkin-Dawson girls headline Friday schedule

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

There are more than a few important matches involving Northeast Georgia-area teams on Friday, however, none may be bigger than the Lumpkin County-Dawson County girls showdown in Dahlonega.

The Lady Indians are ranked No. 1 in Class 3A with the Lady Tigers ranked fourth. They will open both of their Region 7-3A schedules on Friday at The Burial Grounds. Lumpkin County (5-0-1, 0-0 Region 7-3A) has outscored its opposition 29-3 so far on the season with three shutouts. Dawson County (7-0-1, 0-0 Region 7-3A) has outscored its opponents 36-4 with five shutouts. It's already been a banner year for the Lady Tigers, who won just four games in all of 2022.

Habersham Central and Gainesville will play in a pair of big Region 8-6A and Copa 985 matches at City Park Stadium.

The No. 4-ranked Cherokee Bluff girls (8-1, 2-0 Region 8-4A) will take on Walnut Grove (5-4, 3-2 Region 8-4A) in a crucial match to stay near the top of the Region 8-4A standings.
