COVINGTON, Ga. — The Flowery Branch tennis teams both opened their Region 8-5A schedules with big wins over Eastside on Tuesday.
The Lady Falcons (4-2, 1-0 Region 8-5A) won 4-1 behind a doubles sweep. The No. 1 team of Violet Shultz and Haley Bursinger took a close 6-4, 6-4 while the No. 2 team of Casey Beaver and Casey Skaggs dominated their match, 6-1, 6-1.
In the singles, Sandra Hernandez at No. 1 and Richney Nguyen at No. 3 both got straight-set wins.
For Branch boys (2-4, 1-0 Region 8-5A) they also were powered by a sweep in the doubles for a 4-1 victory. Josh Warren and Ty Weatherley took a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 while Eli King and Reid Barnes won a close 7-5, 7-5 match at No. 2.
In singles, Brayden Jackson took a straight-set win at No. 1 while Logan Magnuson rallied from a set down to win at No. 2, 4-6, 6-2 (10-8) in three sets.
