OAKWOOD, Ga. — The Johnson girls continued their strong play on Friday, beating Madison County 4-2 at The Dungeon in Region 8-4A play.
The win pushed the Lady Knights (4-2-1, 2-0 Region 8-4A) unbeaten streak to 5, where they are 4-0-1 in that span. They remain in second in the region, one-half game behind No. 1-ranked North Oconee (5-0-1, 3-0 Region 8-4A).
Johnson never trailed but the Lady Red Raiders (5-2, 2-2 Region 8-4A) never went away either. Genevieve Aguilar got things started with a goal and Liz Rivera made it 2-0 heading in a corner from Joana Marban. Madison County cut the lead to 2-1 on a breakaway goal.
Rivera and Marban connected again on another goal off a header from a corner kick to push the lead to 3-1. But the Lady Red Raiders answered again with a goal off a free kick late in the half.
Aguilar scored again in the second half and the Johnson defense was able to hold on.
The Lady Knights travel to Seckinger next on Tuesday in another region battle.
