A Georgia state senator from Gainesville, who is in her first term in office, passed her first bill under the Gold Dome this week.

District 49 Republican Shelly Echols introduced Senate Bill 120, which passes unanimously with a 54 to 0 vote on Wednesday. The bill was to update a reference to bring a state code regarding safe operations of motor carriers to federal standards. The legislation is typically updated annually.

“With over a decade of experience working with motor carrier safety regulations, I am proud to have authored this legislation to further guide, support, and protect transportation policy,” Echols said. “Public safety is a top priority, and I will continue to work on behalf of all Georgians to ensure it stays that way.”

Echols, a former Hall County Commissioner, took office in January after winning the seat in last November's election.
