A recent study has shown that the city of Oakwood is one of the fastest-growing destinations for fishing in the state of Georgia.
The study conducted by the website FishingBooker.com looked at data from hundreds of thousands of fishing trips booked through the website over the past two years to find which areas were seeing the biggest increases. Oakwood ranked number two in the state, only behind Tybee Island on the Georgia coast.
The south Hall County city is one of several to border Lake Lanier, which the website said has made it a prime spot for freshwater fishing.
"Georgia is well known for its freshwater fishing, so it only makes sense to find Oakwood in the number two spot. Located outside Atlanta on Lake Lanier, this is the perfect place to catch some Bass," the website said.
Sunrise Cove Marina off Flat Creek Road and Balus Creek Park off Mountain View Road are the two lake accesses in the city. The website said fishing trips increased by 33.9% from 2021 to 2022.
