Fatal Crash overnight in Elbert County

A single vehicle crash in Elbert County has claimed the life of a passenger and injured the driver of a an SUV.

Georgia State Patrol (GSP) says the 2017 Chevrolet Equinox of 33-year old Shanteeka Browner of Elbert County was traveling north on Lake Forest Circle Friday night at around 9:40 p.m. when it veered off the roadway, striking a tree head-on.

Browner was transported to Piedmont Athens Regional Hosptial for non-life threatening injuries while her passenger, 53-year old Tracey Routh of Elbert County, was transported from the crash to Elbert Memorial Hospital.

The GSP reports say Routh later died from the injuries sustained in the crash.

The cause for the crash remains under GSP investigation, while charges against Browner are pending at this time.
