2 Oakwood teens arrested after receiving package with 490 THC vapes

Two teenagers from Oakwood were arrested Wednesday after officials were able to track a package that had been mailed to the suspects containing 490 THC oil vape cartridges.

According to the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Pablo Manuel Jimenez, 17, and Karl Kristopher Kmeck Showen, 18, were both arrested on various drug charges.

The investigation began after the sheriff's office and Homeland Security Investigations were notified by the United States Postal Service that a shipment of THC was being mailed to an address in the 4000 block of Allen Street in Oakwood. Investigators worked with USPS to hold the package and then deliver it at a set time on Wednesday.

During that delivery, investigators observed Jimenez take possession of the package. Jimenez and Showen then put the package in the trunk of a vehicle parked outside the home. Investigators approached the home and arrested the two teens as a result. A 16-year-old girl who was present at the time of the arrests was released to the custody of her parents.

Hall County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer B.J. Williams said the girl was not charged.

When investigators recovered the package containing 490 THC oil vape cartridges from the vehicle, they also found 2.5 lbs of marijuana packaged in multiple bags along with a scale. Investigators were able to determine that the marijuana belonged to Showen. Additionally, Jimenez had more than 30 THC vapes at his Allen Street residence.

Williams said authorities are investigating the source of the package.

The estimated total street value of the drugs was $22,900.

Additionally, the crimes occurred within 1,000 feet of Oakwood Elementary School due to the home's proximity.

Showen was charged with the following:

  • Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute

  • Possession of marijuana

  • Possession of THC oil with intent to distribute

  • Sale of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school – 2 counts

  • Contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Jimenez was charged with Possession of THC oil with intent to distribute and Sale of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school.

All of the charges Showen and Jimenez are facing are felonies.

Jimenez remained in the Hall County Jail Friday on a $33,400 bond. Showen was jailed with no bond.
