A 16-year-old Banks County High School student has been accused of making an online threat against Johnson High School in Hall County on Wednesday, Apr. 23.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said a 911 caller reported the threatening Snapchat post at around 3 p.m., and by 5:30 p.m., investigators identified the girl who made the post. Investigators also determined the threat was not viable.

According to investigators, the teen admitted to posting the threat, which stated there would be a shooting at JHS. She reportedly posted the threat after a male student at Johnson did not follow through with a plan to go to prom with her.

The girl has been charged as a juvenile, facing one charge of making a terroristic threat.

A statement from Hall County Schools spokesman Stan Lewis said, “There was a social media post made late yesterday afternoon threatening the JHS. Snapchat flagged it and worked through law enforcement agencies to notify us. The individual who made the post was not an HCSD student but rather a student from another district. Law enforcement responded quickly and determined the threat was not credible. The individual was charged.”

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and internal investigators at Snapchat assisted the investigation.
