A Gainesville man will spend life in prison for the sexual assault of a young Gainesville girl following his conviction and sentencing on Wednesday.
According to Lee Darragh, District Attorney for the Northeastern Judicial Circuit, Felix Barragan-Garcia, 46, was convicted on two counts of aggravated child molestation, one count of rape, three counts of child molestation and one count of furnishing obscenity to a minor.
The victim was reportedly between the ages of 8 and 11 during the abuse.
Barragan-Garcia had fled to Kansas during the investigation and was eventually arrested in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. He was then brought back to Hall County in March.
The jury returned its verdict in less than 90 minutes.
Superior Court Judge Lindsay Burton sentenced Barragan-Garcia to life in prison plus 25 years to serve and the balance on probation.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant DA Harold Buckler and ADA Morgan Cox.
