Commerce flexed its muscles last week in Elberton, proving they are the cream of the crop in Region 8-A Divison 1 with a massive win over the Blue Devils. They have the outright lead in the region with a massive game at home against 10-defending region champion Rabun County. Set a reminder for this one because Friday will be an all-out brawl in Commerce.
Lumpkin County and White County did not disappoint in the thrilling four-overtime game in Dahlonega last week. Lumpkin County's Cal Faulkner snagged White County quarterback Tripp Morris's pass out of the air to seal the 61-55 win over the Warriors. The win has the Indians on track for the program's first region championship. If they beat Dawson County on Friday and West Hall next week, they'll be crowned Region 7-3A champs.
CHECK OUT THE REGION STANDINGS HERE.
As we head to Week 11, a handful of games on the slate could alter region standings in the area, making sure the week will have some exciting finishes and more drama. Jacobs Media will have three of those showdowns on its airwaves and streaming live on AccessWDUN.com.
Mountain View at Buford –. Mountain View has a shot to grab a home playoff game with a win over Buford on Friday. However, Buford wants the No. 2 spot in the region as well. But Buford's hopes of a region championship are still in play. However, they'll need to win this week and hope Mountain View can knock off Mill Creek in Week 12. This game will not be a pushover for the Wolves. Mountain View has struggled this season en route to a 4-4 record, but there's no other motivation needed for the Bears than a game against Buford at Tom Riden Stadium. How will this game end? We're not sure. The game can be heard live on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live).
Loganville at Flowery Branch – The greatest part of the season is here. It's the part when region seeding for the state playoffs is ever-changing, and it could happen again this week. Flowery Branch has a shot to seal up a No. 3 spot in the region with just one game remaining against Heritage-Conyers next week. If the Falcons want to stay away from that dreaded No. 4 seed, a win is necessary on Friday. The Falcons should be in good shape after having last week off. The biggest question is, did it stop the momentum? This game will be interesting with a Gene Cathcart-coached offense that likes to throw the ball. If the box can't create some havoc in the backfield, the Loganville air raid could have success. The game can be heard live on FM 102.9 WDUN (Click to listen live).
Gainesville at North Forsyth – Week 4 was the last time Gainesville really had a test. It was the close win over Coconut Creek, Fla. Since then, they're averaging over 50 points a game on offense and have gotten plenty of rest. They'll roll into Raider Valley on Friday with a shot to seal up the region title. However, the Raiders want that trophy as well. NoFo will put up a fight against the top-ranked Red Elephants, and with the way this series has gone over the years, don't put all your money on the favorite. Remember last year? Will there be a repeat ending this year? Maybe. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).
