A Hall County man died over the weekend, less than two days after his ultralight aircraft crashed Friday upon takeoff from a private grass strip south of Cleveland.
Lee Olson, 79, of Gainesville died early Sunday of his injuries, said White County Deputy Coroner Patrick Ward.
Witnesses told officials Friday the ultralight took off from Mountain Air Park, made a hard left bank, and then struck the roof of a hangar building before crashing into an adjacent driveway.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration’s preliminary incident report, the Kolb Firestar II crashed under unknown circumstances.
The crash at 107 Runway Drive, Cleveland, was reported at 1:07 Friday afternoon.
Olson was flown from the scene to the trauma center at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he later died.
