Warnock leads by double digits; Kemp tied with Abrams, new poll finds

A new poll out on Wednesday shows a widening gap in the race for U.S. Senate and an increasingly close race for governor.

In the first poll released since he clinched the nomination, Republican Herschel Walker's numbers are far behind that of incumbent U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock.

The survey from Quinnipiac University puts Warnock ahead of Walker 54 to 44 percent.

A Quinnipiac poll out in January put the Walker ahead of Warnock by one point, 49 to 48 percent.

GENDER/RACE/AGE BREAKDOWN

The survey finds Warnock leads among women by 24%, while Walker is ahead with men by only 7%.

Warnock carries Black voters 88% to 10%, while Walker has the support of white voters 62% to 35%.

Mr. Warnock is leading significantly among voters 18-34 and 35-49. Only one percentage point separates the two among voters 50 -64, with 49% favoring Warnock to 48% for Walker.

The survey finds Walker leads among voters 65 years of age and over, 52% to 45%.

54% of the respondents believe Mr. Warnock is the more honest of the two candidates. Compared to 39% for Walker.

"Herschel Walker fumbles on honesty and tumbles on favorability as Raphael Warnock surges ahead in the race for senator," said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy.

The survey found that 59% of those polled believe Warnock "cares about average Georgians" compared to just 44% saying the same about Mr. Walker.

GOVERNOR'S RACE

In the race for Georgia governor Quinnipiac found the race to be a dead heat at 48% for both Kemp and Abrams.

This is not a significant change from what the same survey group found in a poll taken in January.

In the latest sampling, Kemp wins among 96% of Republicans polled, and Abrams carries 95% of Democrats and 52% of independents.

GENDER/RACE/AGE BREAKDOWN

According to the poll, Abrams carries women by 13%, compared to Kemp's 17% lead among men.

Abrams wins Black voters 83% to 13% while Kemp carries white voters 68% to 29%.

Abrams leads significantly (61% to 36%) among 18-34-year-olds, but the lead narrows to just 5% for Abrams among those 35-49 years old. Kemp carries voters 50+.

Both Kemp and Abrams were neck and neck when it came to favorability and characteristics.

While slightly more voters believe Abrams is honest and cares about average Georgians. Kemp gets high marks for leadership skills.

"With both candidates getting positive numbers on honesty, empathy, and leadership, Kemp and Abrams are in a Governor's race too close to call," Malloy added.
