Former Senate candidate Kelvin King announces run for GA Secretary of State

By AccessWDUN Staff

A former Republican Georgia U.S. Senate candidate, Kelvin King, has announced his plans to run for Secretary of State.

King, who ran for Senate in 2022, losing in the Republican primary to Herschel Walker, said on WDUN's "The Martha Zoller Show" Thursday morning that he announced his candidacy on Tuesday, July 22.

King criticized the current Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

"I'm looking at the disunity, especially around elections, with our voters here in Georgia," King said. "It looks like trust is breaking down with our Secretary of State's Office, and trust is essential, especially in our constitutional republic."

Raffensperger, also a Republican who was first elected to the position in 2018, has not formally announced if he intends to run for re-election or will seek another office.

King said he believes his experience in the U.S. Air Force and in the construction business have equipped him for the secretary of state role.

"My job in the Air Force was procurement, writing contracts, issuing contracts. Contracting Officers are the only authorized representatives of the federal government who can spend your tax dollars," King said. "I went into corporate American for several years...went through the business formation process, went through the licensing process...I just thought that I can put these skills and these experiences to good use and continue to serve the public."
