Hall County Commission approves self-storage, medical office on Thompson Bridge Road

By Austin Eller News Director

The Hall County Commission approved on Thursday a rezoning request allowing for the construction of a medical office and self-storage facility on Thompson Bridge Road near Mount Vernon Road.

The approval came nine months after an original proposal by D. Barrett Investment Properties, LLC. was denied by the Hall County Commission.

The original plans submitted in the Summer of 2021 were to build a car wash along with the self-storage facility, but those were tabled by the planning commission after heavy backlash from the residents of nearby Lanier Village Estates. The car wash was then replaced with a proposed medical office building, which was still opposed by residents due to the storage facility's proposed three-story height. That plan was ultimately denied by county commissioners in August.

Attorney Tyler Smith spoke on behalf of D. Barrett Investment Properties at Thursday's meeting. Smith said the developer has worked to come to an agreement with nearby residents in the wake of the original project's denial in 2021.

Under the new rezoning request, the 5.7-acre tract will be divided into two parcels, one for the medical building and the other for the storage facility.

Smith many nearby residents were concerned about the height of the self-storage facility in their original proposal in 2021. Under the new proposal, the self-storage facility will be two stories.

Three people spoke in favor of the project, including a representative from Acts Retirement-Life Communities, which operates Lanier Village Estates.
