American Legion in Homer seeking support to renovate building

American Legion Post 215 in Homer has begun the process of renovating its 75-year-old building. The building not only has served as a meeting place for veterans, but also as a community gathering spot for reunions, birthday parties, and other celebration.

“We've just started renovating a building that was built in 1947,” said Post Historian Mike Sheppard. “And there's several things that need to be done. We just finished a new sewer system. The floor has to be redone inside and a lot of paint. And we appreciate any — any donations help — that we can get from the community.”
Simply replacing the floor of the aging building is very costly.

“We've got two bids and they're in between $30,000 and $50,000,” Sheppard said.

People who want to support the post renovation project financially can do so.

“We're Box 94 in Homer, Georgia,” Sheppard said. “And on the wall of the post down there, it's got all the officers and their phone number so you can reach any of the officers anytime.”

American Legion Post 215 is located on Old Highway 441 near Thompson Street. It’s the building behind the tank.
