It will be a tough road overall for Northeast Georgia-area tennis teams in the second round.
Of the 15 area teams that advanced to the Sweet 16 of the Georgia High School Association playoffs last week, nine will be on the road in the second round. However, the Jackson County girls (Class 5A) and the Flowery Branch girls and Jefferson boys (Class 4A) all took road wins in the opening round.
In fact, the Jefferson boys made it two straight match wins on the road knocking off West Laurens, 3-2, on Thursday.
The GHSA dictates that all 2nd round matches must be completed by April 27, with teams scheduling at their leisure.
Area teams already are having a better showing in 2022 than last year. Only one team -- the Commerce girls in Class A Public -- managed to get out of the second round in 2021. The Jefferson boys matched that on Thursday.
Both Buford teams in Class 6A, the North Hall girls and Cherokee Bluff boys in Class 3A, and the Riverside Military boys and Rabun County girls in Class 2A will be playing at home in the second round with a chance to advance.
