Gainesville City Schools named Denise Haltrecht as the new Fair Street International Academy principal at Monday’s Board of Education meeting. She will start her role in the fall of 2022.
Haltrecht will replace current Fair Street International principal Gwenell Brown, who announced her retirement in December 2021.
She comes to Gainesville City Schools after serving Fulton County Schools for 11 years. Haltrecht has held an assistant principal role at Taylor Road Middle School, Crabapple Crossing and Dunwoody Springs Elementary.
She has also worked for Atlanta Public Schools, Broward County Public Schools and New York City Schools during her career.
Gainesville City Schools Superintendent Jeremy Williams noted Haltrecht’s extensive leadership experience.
“Ms. Haltrecht comes to us with a strong background in leadership and experience,” Williams said in a press release. “As a bilingual leader she will bring a unique connection to our students and families. The Fair Street community is one with strong traditions and history and Ms. Haltrecht is eager to join the team."
Haltrecht is originally from South Florida and has Argentinian heritage. She says that her diverse background will give her an insightful perspective to Fair Street students and families.
“I am thrilled to meet the Fair Street community and have already heard so many wonderful things about its tradition and history from the staff,” Haltrecht said. “Diversity, equity and inclusion are the perfect ingredients to continue those traditions for years to come.”
