OAKWOOD — The Class 5A No. 1 Johnson boys won their 10th straight match with a 5-1 win over Apalachee at The Dungeon on Tuesday.
The victory for the Knights (14-0-1, 5-0 Region 8-5A) also kept in pace with Clarke Central (12-1, 6-0 Region 8-5A) atop the region standings with just over a week left in the regular season. Those two teams will meet next week in the season finale in Oakwood.
Against Apalachee (5-8, 1-3 Region 8-5A) Ramon Aguilar had a brace and Jorge Sandoval recorded the hat trick to account for the Johnson goals.
Aguilar, Sandoval, and Christian Robles each had one assist as well. Kristian Hernandez got the win in goal for Johnson.
The Knights next will travel to Eastside on Thursday for another region match.
CHEROKEE BLUFF GIRLS 10,
CHESTATEE 0
The Class 3A fourth-ranked Cherokee Bluff girls pushed their win streak to seven straight with a win over Chestatee on Tuesday in a non-region battle.
It was the fifth shutout win of the season for keeper Avery Fowler and the Lady Bears (11-3) defense.
The offense, meanwhile, got goals from five different players. Kaitlin Cook led the way with a hat trick and 2 assists. Genesis Gamez and Amelia Dovie each had 2 goals for Bluff.
Ellie Sutulovich had a goal and 2 assists and Carson DeMars had a goal and an assist for the Lady Bears. Anna Gessner had 2 assists while Alyssa Stringer, Kaitlyn Vasil, and Alex Jahnke each had one assist for Cherokee Bluff.
EAST HALL BOYS 4,
CEDAR SHOALS 0
Eden Castrejon scored two goals to lead the East Hall boys (7-7, 3-2 Region 8-4A) past Cedar Shoals on Tuesday at home.
Angel Perez opened the scoring with a goal in the 36th minute and would head to the break with a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, Amado Valladarez doubled the lead with a goal in the 48th minute. Castrejon punched in two goals in the second half to push the lead to 4-0.
Wilber Bernal and Kenny Barrera-Paz split time in goal to shut out Cedar Shoals.
