Habersham County: one person injured in multi-vehicle accident

On Monday, a multi-vehicle accident in Habersham County involved six vehicles and left one person with injuries.

Just after 4 p.m., a Dodge Ram truck was attempting to turn left on GA 365 to LC Turner Road when the front of the truck struck the driver's side of a red Ford Ranger. That caused the Ford Ranger to spin, going off the roadway onto the shoulder and then back again, stopping in the middle of the northbound lanes, facing west. The Dodge Ram also spun out of control coming to a stop on LC Turner Road.

A third driver was trying to avoid the accident. Layna Parson, 21 of Homer, was traveling northbound when she changed lanes quickly, moving over to the left, hitting a vehicle in that left-hand lane, causing a chain reaction. Four total cars were involved in that second accident when Parson’s truck struck a Toyota 4 Runner. The 4-Runner struck a Buick and the Buick hit a fourth vehicle, a truck.

The driver of the Ford Ranger, Don Chastain, 66 of Toccoa was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the driver of the Dodge Ram, Stanley Summers, 70 of Dahlonega, was charged with failure to yield while turning left. The third driver, Parson, was charged with an improper lane change.
