Habersham County Attorney, Donnie T. Hunt, submitted a letter announcing his retirement to the Board of Commissioners on Feb. 17.
The Habersham County Government said Hunt will continue to work for and represent the county on an hourly basis as normal without a monthly retainer through Jun. 30.
“It is our hope and desire that we can transition smoothly on that date to the new county attorney,” a press release from the county read.
Hunt said he would help the county if it needs any legal assistance after Jun. 30.
Hunt and Attorney Ralph Taylor, with Hunt & Taylor Law Group, have represented the county since they were appointed in 2012.
“The County will greatly miss Mr. Hunt and his vast knowledge of County Government. That same knowledge and experience is going to be hard to replace. We wish him well in this next chapter of life, and we will be celebrating his retirement along with him,” Interim County Manager Tim Sims said.
The Board of Commissioners approved the retirement at a recent meeting and several commissioners gave their regards to Hunt for his work.
“I have known Mr. Hunt for many years, I hope that he goes on to enjoy his retirement,” Chairman Jimmy Tench said.
Habersham County will prepare a request for proposal at the board’s discretion to find a new county attorney.
