Tennis: NHall, Buford sweep; GHS boys win in region play

DAWSONVILLE — Both North Hall tennis teams took solid 4-1 wins over Dawson County on Thursday in Region 7-3A play.

In the boys match, North Hall swept the singles as Jack Maddox defeated Chase Cofield 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1; Austin Copper beat Zach Friday 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2; and Griffin Keener held off Lane Perry 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3.

In the doubles, Clay Martin andLuis Delgado defeated Ben Swafford and Conner Scroggin 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 for the Trojans. Dawson County’s lone win came at No. 2 doubles where Grant Ledbetter and Conner Woody knocked off Hunter Pierce andStephen Sartain 6-4, 6-3.

North Hall improved to a perfect 4-0 in the region with the victory.

In the girls match, the Lady Trojans also swept the singles. Ella Kate Canaday defeated Kayleigh Moon 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1, Gabbie Jenkins beat Marlee Gaddis 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, and  Lilly Perry beat Blake Smith 6-1, 6-0.

The Lady Tigers got their win at No. 1 doubles as Kenzie Stovet and Avery Beaty  won a tough 7-5, 6-4 match over Kayla Miller and Riley Morgan. North Hall’s Ali Moore and Madilyn Dye defeated Kelsi Folsom and Amber Horton 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

The Lady Trojans also improved to 4-0 in region play.

Both North Hall teams next will travel to Cherokee Bluff on Monday.


GAINESVILLE BOYS 3,
NORTH FORSYTH 2

The Red Elephants took a key Region 6-7A win on the road on Thursday.

Gainesville used a dominating sweep in doubles to lead the way. The No. 1 team of Andrew Elliott  and Samuel Holt took a 6-0, 6-1 win while Jacob Nguyen and Reed Slack won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Kamyaab Cornett helped seal the win for Gainesville with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles.


BUFORD SWEEPS HAB CENTRAL

The Buford tennis teams continue to roll through Region 8-6A as both the boys and girls took 5-0 wins over the Raiders in Mt Airy on Thursday.
  
For the boys, Dean Kingsley, James Troutt, and Leyton Grothe rolled to wins in singles. The doubles teams of Brent Sherman and Luke Clark and Grayson Gilbert and Matthew Maurer also won as the Wolves improved to 14-3.

For the girls, who also improved to 14-3, Taylor Aycock, Berkley Clark, and Hannah Davidson got wins at singles. Kylie Mccammon and Delaney Richards and Marigrace Crossett and Anna Cate Smith got the wins in doubles.

Both teams will conclude their regular seasons on Tuesday on the road against Central Gwinnett.
