Soccer: Johnson, Lakeview, GHS boys win; Branch girls draw; EHall boys fall

GAINESVILLE — The Lakeview Academy boys opened their season with a 3-2 win over Riverside Military Academy on Tuesday at home. 

Sam Perrott recorded a hat trick for the Lions (1-0) one on a penalty kick and the two others assisted by Bryan Ramsey and Sean lupczynski.

Lewis Coyle recorded five saves in goal for Lakeview. The Lions next will travel to White County on Thursday.


JOHNSON BOYS 2,
LANIER 0

The Knights remained unbeaten on the season and have yet to allow a goal after a road win on Tuesday.

Jorge Sandoval had the brace for the Knights (3-0), with both goals coming in the first half. Kristian Hernandez assisted on one of the goals.

Johnson, which is 2-0 on the road so far, will travel to Flowery Branch (1-0) on Friday.


GAINESVILLE BOYS 5,
HABERSHAM CENTRAL 0

The Red Elephants (2-1) bounced back from a tough loss to rival Johnson with an impressive win at City Park on Tuesday.

Keeper Wilberth Orellana, helped by Marcos Morenos , Daniel Solis, and Rehoboth Bitige, recorded the second shutout win of the season for Gainesville.

Meanwhile, the offense had its best output of the season, led by Nelson Ortega, who had two goals and an assist. Defender Ozmar Marceleno, Austin Contreras, and Moises  ´Nunez each had one goal for the Red Elephants.

Contreras and Christofer Lopez had one assist apiece for Ganesville.


CLARKE CENTRAL BOYS 2,
EAST HALL 1 

The young Vikings (0-2-1) are still looking for their first win after dropping a tough match to the Class 5A Gladiators in their home-opener.

Clarke Central (2-0) scored both goals in the first half to grab the lead. East Hall’s Jonathan Torres scored for the Vikings with two minutes remaining in the first half off an assist from Angel Perez to cut into the lead.

But the Gladiators held off the Vikings offense in the second half.

East Hall next will travel to West Hall on Friday.


FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 1,
ATLANTA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL 1

The Lady Falcons salvaged a tie with AIS on the road on Tuesday. 

After a scoreless first half, Atlanta International scored in the 45th minute  early in the second half to take a 1-0 lead. It stayed that way until Flowery Branch scored with 7 minutes remaining in the game on a goal from junior Sarah Greiner off an assist from senior Lidia Arellano to even the match.

Senior goalkeeper Bailee Blair had 9 saves in goal for Branch (0-1-1).
