Flowery Branch motorcyclist dies of injuries after crash

A motorcyclist believed to be one who had been observed by officers earlier traveling at a high rate of speed died Saturday night after crashing on Exit 17 of I-985.

Jeremy Wayne Burney, 28, of Flowery Branch was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Northeast Georgia Medical Center from serious injuries he received when he crashed because his blue motorcycle was unable to negotiate the curve at the top of the offramp, the Georgia State Patrol reported.

A Hall County deputy sheriff attempted to stop a blue motorcycle about 11 p.m. for traffic offenses on I-985 at mile marker 12 and requested assistance from GSP.

A trooper at Exit 16 observed the motorcycle pass him at a high rate of speed, GSP said. After merging onto the interstate, Troopers had no contact with the motorcycle and never activated emergency equipment.

After losing visual contact with the motorcycle, troopers took Exit 17 in hopes of seeing where the motorcycle may have gone and traveled south on Atlanta Highway to Mundy Mill Road.

Hall County Dispatch then received a 9-1-1 call about the crash involving a blue motorcycle at the Exit 17 offramp.
