Multiple northeast Georgia school systems to close Friday ahead of tropical storm

Several northeast Georgia school systems will be closed Friday, November 11 in anticipation of Tropical Storm Nicole.

Schools in Franklin County, White County, Stephens County, Rabun County and Banks County will be closed for students and staff.

The private Tallulah Falls School will also be closed.

In a release from Habersham County Schools, admin assistant superintendent Nancy Rennels said Habersham County is in the potential path of the storm. Habersham County is under a wind advisory until Friday evening.

“Our local emergency management agency advises that our county could see wind gusts high enough to affect school buses, student drivers, bring down trees and, cause power outages.” Rennels said. “We are going to play it safe tomorrow and keep everyone off the roadways.”

However, Hall County Schools will be open on Friday. Hall County Schools spokesman Stan Lewis said the school system's decision was based off the last National Weather Service briefing that was held at the Hall County Emergency Management & Homeland Security Agency.

"We will continue to monitor the weather closely but we feel confident conditions will be safe enough to have school tomorrow," Lewis said.
