Domestic violence shooting in Gainesville leads to an arrest and hospitalization

A domestic shooting early Wednesday morning left one woman in critical condition and led to the arrest of one man.

Officers with Gainesville Police Department responded to the Midtown Villages on 854 Davis Street at 1:15 a.m. and found the female victim, 44, with multiple gunshot wounds. Police administered medical aid until EMS arrived, and the victim then was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Authorities found the alleged shooter, Kenneth Brown, nearby the area and briefly chased him on foot.

Officers were forced to deploy a taser after Brown refused to follow officers’ commands, according to police.

Brown is currently being held in the Hall County Jail on aggravated assault charges, and additional charges are forthcoming.

In a statement, Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish reminded the public of the many dangers domestic violence victims face.

“October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month; this is a solemn reminder of the dangers that many face on a daily basis,” Parrish said. “Domestic violence is prevalent in every community, and affects all people regardless of age or socio-economic status. We encourage those who are living with domestic violence to seek help.”

Gainesville Police Department recommends and supports the Gateway Domestic Violence Center, a shelter in Gainesville that provided housing and support programs for battered women and their children. Those who are in that type situation can contact the crisis hotline at (770) 536-5860 or visit the center's website for information and resources.
