GSP says Lilburn man facing more charges after Rabun County motorcycle chase

A Lilburn man now faces two dozen charges after a chase last week in Rabun County.

The Georgia State Patrol added charges against Shawn Patrick McLaughlin after a blue pack containing a pistol and marijuana was located on the edge of the woods where McLaughlin fled prior to wrecking, according to GSP.

McLaughlin is charged with driving under the influence, aggressive driving, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, littering, and a host of traffic charges, the updated GSP incident report states.

“On Monday, Sept. 26, at 10 a.m., a Trooper from Post 7 Toccoa attempted to stop a motorcycle traveling north on Ga. 15 near Lofty Branch Lane in Rabun County, for traffic violations,” said Lt. Michael Burns of GSP. “The motorcycle operator refused to stop for the Trooper, initiating a pursuit.  The operator continued north on Ga. 15 and traveled into the city limits of Clayton, where the operator traveled east on Rickman Street and onto Warwoman Road. At this time, the Trooper lost visual of the motorcycle and discontinued the pursuit. A short time later, a deputy with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office observed the motorcycle on Warwoman Road, attempted to stop the operator, and again they fled. The motorcycle operator attempted to turn at Aviator Lane but crashed the motorcycle.”

The motorcyclist was taken into custody without further incident. He was taken to Mountain Lakes Medical Center in Clayton for treatment of minor injuries, then was taken to the Rabun County Detention Center for booking.
