By AccessWDUN Staff

A Virginia man led a Georgia State Patrol trooper on a high-speed vehicle chase in Toccoa Sunday afternoon.

SFC Donny Saddler with the Georgia State Patrol said in a media statement a trooper from Post 7 in Toccoa attempted to stop a 2021 Ford Bronco for speeding on Ga. 17 southbound in Stephens County near Currahee Lane. Saddler said the vehicle was traveling 85 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Saddler said the driver, later identified as Dashiell Caffee of Norfolk, Virginia, failed to stop for the trooper and sped away, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph.

After Caffee ran a red light at GA 145, the trooper performed a successful PIT maneuver, ending the pursuit after approximately 4.3 miles near Memorial Drive.  After the maneuver, the trooper's patrol vehicle struck a guardrail resulting in damage to the right side of the vehicle. The trooper reported minor injuries, but he did not require medical attention at the hospital.

Saddler said Caffee was arrested and booked at the Stephens County Detention Center. Later in the day, Caffee was taken to Stephens County Hospital after he complained of minor injuries. He was treated and released back to the detention center.

Caffee faces charges of felony fleeing, driving while license revoked and reckless driving.

The onset of the chase was reported at 2:55 p.m. on Sept. 26.
