The man convicted in the murder of Gainesville businessman Jack Hough is now a suspect in the death of another inmate at Augusta State Medical Prison.

Joan Heath with the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) confirmed that DeMarvin Bennett is a suspect and said an investigation is being conducted by the GDC’s Office of Professional Standards.

On Feb. 7, 2019, Hough was sitting in his vehicle outside the CVS Pharmacy on Park Hill Drive when Bennett approached the car and shot him. Hough later died at the hospital.

In May 2021, Bennett was ordered to serve a life prison sentence with the possibility of parole for the crime.
