A Kennesaw man has now been charged in connection with a four-vehicle collision that killed two people on Georgia 365 in Hall County Sunday.
Warrants were issued for the arrest of Zachary Darnell Queen, 28, on Monday. He was arrested and remains in the Hall County Jail with no bond.
The Georgia State Patrol charged Queen with two counts of felony first-degree vehicular homicide for the deaths of Lee Howard Powell of Demorest and Karen Heath McClure of McDonough. Both victims were occupants of a pick-up truck that was rear-ended by Queen's vehicle in the southbound lanes of Georgia 365 just south of Mud Creek Road. Two other vehicles also were caught up in the crash, but the drivers of those vehicles were not injured, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Initially, investigators did not believe drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident, but Queen has been charged with DUI drugs. He also has been charged with failure to maintain lane, following too closely, speeding and reckless driving.
The fatal crash was reported just before 2:45 p.m. on May 23.
