ZEBULON — The two extra days of wait apparently did not suit the North Hall girls soccer team as they fell to Pike County 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A playoffs on Thursday.
The two teams were supposed to play on Tuesday but was postponed due the rains that battered Georgia for three days.
The loss ended a remarkable run for the Lady Trojans (9-6) who were the only No. 4 seed to advance in the playoffs in Class 3A.
"We played with a tremendous amount of pride and courage. It was a very even game for the most part and I thought we may have edged it on key chances created. Some key moments went against us and that little bit of luck that we’ve had wasn’t there tonight," North Hall girls coach Alex Wright said.
Pike County (11-4-2) scored in the 19th minute to break a scoreless and pushed the lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 35th minute. Both teams had chances over the final 45 minutes but could not through crack the defenses.
North Hall had three solid scoring opportunities but could not find the net. They had a pair of non-calls in the box go against them as well.
"I’m incredibly proud of my kids for the season they’ve had and they saved one of their best performances of the season for tonight. It just wasn’t to be," Wright said.
