State officials rule Banks County fires as arson

Two fires at a home on McDonald Circle near Commerce Thursday night have been ruled arson.

Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John King announced the determinations today, saying the first fire at 783 McDonald Circle was reported at 7:55 p.m. Thursday, with the second occurring some 40 minutes later.

“According to the occupants, a fire was found on the front porch of the residence in a plastic bucket about 40 minutes before the second fire occurred,” King said in a statement. “The second fire caused minor damage to the right side of the structure. Both fires were extinguished before the fire department arrived.”

The home was a 57-year-old, single-wide mobile home.

State fire investigators are assisting Banks County Fire/EMS and Banks County Sheriff’s Office on the case.

Rewards of up to $10,000 are offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of arsonists in Georgia. Anyone with information about the person(s) responsible for an arson fire can call the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at (800) 252-5804. Callers can choose to remain anonymous.
