Driver killed, passenger injured in Jackson County crash

By AccessWDUN staff

A driver was killed and his passenger was injured in a single-vehicle crash in Jackson County Wednesday morning.

Troopers from the Athens Post of the Georgia State Patrol were called to the accident scene on SR 330 at Savage Road just after 6:30 a.m.

"The investigation found that a silver Infiniti Q50 (passenger car) was traveling north on Savage Road," said SFC Timothy Meyer in an email statement. "The driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign at its intersection with SR 330. The Infiniti traveled across the roadway, off the north side of SR 330 and into the wood line."

Meyer said at that point the vehicle hit several small trees and then overturned onto its roof into a creek bed.

He said neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seat belts when the car crashed.

Both occupants were from out of state, according to Meyer. Both were men, both age 23. Their names are being withheld until relatives can be notified.
