A Winder man turned himself in to Barrow County Detention Center staff Monday morning, telling them he had killed his girlfriend.
According to a press release from the Winder Police Department, James Leon Harvey, 47, walked into the detention center around 7:30 a.m. Monday. He told authorities the incident occurred at his girlfriend's apartment on Glen Avenue, and gave further information to police as the conducted a welfare check.
Police discovered the body of Vivian Delores Billings, 59, of Winder, in the home. Evidence at the scene was consistent with what Harvey had claimed, according to the press release.
Harvey is in custody and faces aggravated assault and felony murder charges. He has no bond.
