Several metro Atlanta counties have announced they are canceling school on Friday in honor of the Braves winning the World Series. Gwinnett County is now among those school systems that say they will give students the day off to enjoy the festivities.
According to a statement released by the Gwinnett County School System, they realize that many families will want to attend the parade and other festivities celebrating the team. They have said it is an official holiday that will not need to be made up and employees are not expected in either.
The statement said that they expected many students and staff were already planning to be absent, and they hoped this would allow everyone to enjoy the special moment.
“This is an exciting time for Atlanta,” said the statement from the school system. “We know that none of our students (and some of our staff) were not alive the last time the Atlanta Braves won a World Series. Enjoy this historic moment! Go Braves!”
They join other school systems that are canceling all classes for the day, including Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb, and others
