A Jefferson man being held in the Clarke County Jail on unrelated charges has now been charged with murder in a shooting at an Athens apartment complex.

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department (ACCPD) served Christopher Rollins, 30, with arrest warrants on Friday, Jan. 22 for the murder of Quamiek Aziz as well as the shooting of Deundre Moses.

"The arrest warrants charge Rollins with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon," stated a release from ACCPD. "Rollins is currently incarcerated at the Clarke County jail on unrelated charges."

In an earlier press statement, police said Aziz, 27, was shot at Rolling Ridge Apartments in northwest Athens the night of Dec. 29, 2020.

"Officers were in the area for an unrelated matter when they heard gunshots," the statement said. Officers found Aziz suffering from a gunshot wound and had him transported to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Later, officers learned that Moses had been taken to the hospital with injuries he received in the same incident.

Police have not said what motivated the shooting.

Investigators said their investigation was a collaborative effort among authorities from the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and the Clarke County Coroner’s Office.
