A suspect was arrested Tuesday morning in connection to a Sunday afternoon shooting in Toccoa which left one man dead and another injured.
According to a press release from the Toccoa Police Department, Brodrique Simone Dixon, 32, of Toccoa, was arrested at the Toccoa Police Department at 8:20 a.m. and remains in the Stephens County Jail as of Tuesday afternoon.
Police responded to the scene of the incident just after 6:30 p.m. on Sunday on Whitman Street. When police arrived, they found two victims with gunshot wounds.
Police performed CPR on Christopher Tukes, 30, of Lavonia, however, he died after being transported to the Stephens County Hospital.
The second victim in the incident, Scottae Martin, 34, of Toccoa, was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville by Stephens County EMS. Martin was treated for his injuries and later released from the hospital.
According to a preliminary investigation by Toccoa Police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the incident may have been the result of a bet on a basketball game at another location.
The GBI later identified Dixon as the suspect in the case and secured a murder warrant for his arrest.
