Even though municipal elections won't happen until Nov. 2, 2021, local cities have to advertise qualifying fees and dates well ahead of the voting date.
Lula City Council on Tuesday night unanimously approved qualifying fees for the mayor's post and for District 2 and District 3 city council posts. Qualifying for the offices will begin Aug. 16. City Attorney Joey Homans explained to council members that advertising for the qualifying dates and the fee schedule had to be done by Feb. 1.
Any candidates who wish to qualify for either of the city council posts will pay a $100 qualifying fee, while mayoral candidates will pay $150 to qualify.
Lula Councilman Mordecai Wilson, who is 95, told his fellow council members at Tuesday night's meeting he plans to run for office again.
