A tractor-trailer fire created major havoc during rush hour on 85 northbound Tuesday evening. Initially, all four lanes were closed near Buford Drive. Slowly lanes were reopened, first the express lane and then lanes 1 and 2, allowing traffic to finally move. While the Gwinnett County Fire Department was able to put out the fire that destroyed the trailer, fire crews remained on scene for many hours later dousing hot spots.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the fire started from the rear wheel on the trailer, which was carrying food – frozen vegetables and french fries. The driver was able to separate the cab of the truck from the cargo part, but the fire did cause extensive damage to the cargo trailer.
There were no injuries or other cars involved and Gwinnett County Fire was able to put the fire out.
