A motorcyclist faces numerous charges after a chase with Habersham County deputies that ended in a wreck in Stephens County on Saturday.
A green Kawasaki motorcycle operated by Michael Kloss, 41, of Eastanollee, with passenger Shauna Arrowood, 31, of Clarkesville was actively fleeing from Habersham County Sheriff’s Office deputies when the wreck occurred at 4:39 p.m.
“The motorcycle was traveling south on Black Mountain Road and was recklessly operated on the wrong side of the roadway while negotiating a curve,” said Cpl. John Getty of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa. “The motorcycle struck the front of a Jeep Cherokee, operated by Charles Palmer, 19, of Toccoa, which was traveling north. Kloss and Arrowood were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of injuries they sustained in the collision. The occupants of the Jeep were not injured.”
Kloss faces charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving, fleeing and attempting to elude, driving while unlicensed, no insurance, concealed tag, and several other traffic violations, Getty said.
Habersham County Sheriff's Lt. Matt Wurtz said the motorcycle matched the description of a reckless driving lookout.
"Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle for traffic offenses in the area of Hwy. 365 and Tom Arrendale Interchange, at which time the driver of the motorcycle refused to stop and the motorcycle driver initiated a vehicle pursuit," Wurtz said.
