A man who killed a Gilmer County woman in October 2001 is set to be the next death row inmate executed at a federal prison in Indiana. Executions at the federal level resumed in March; they had been suspended since 2003.
William Emmett LeCroy raped and murdered Joann Tiesler, who was 30-years-old, after she walked in on him as he was burglarizing her home in Cherry Log. At the time, LeCroy was on probation after serving a 10-year sentence in federal prison for a variety of violent crimes, including aggravated assault, child molestation and statutory rape.
LeCroy stole Tiesler's vehicle and drove to Canada where he was arrested.
He was convicted and sentenced to death in federal court in Gainesville in March 2004.
LeCroy is to be put to death Tuesday, Sept. 22 at the federal prison in Indiana where he is currently imprisoned. LeCroy's execution would be the sixth since federal executions resumed.
LeCroy's lawyers are petitioning with President Trump to change his sentence to life without parole.
