Mic'd Up: Red Elephants feeling confident as prep for 2020 season continues

GAINESVILLE — It was business as usual for Gainesville coach Heath Webb and junior offensive lineman Elijah Ruiz.

Both Webb and Ruiz volunteered to wear the microphone during practice this week as the Red Elephants continued to prep for the delayed 2020 football campaign. Right now, Gainesville opens on Sept. 18 at Flowery Branch.

Despite the loss of the first two games against Johns Creek and Chattahoochee, Webb says the program is in a good place.

"I feel like we have a great understanding of what we're doing offensively and defensively and special teams," he said. "The challenge we have now is trying not to overload the guys right now."

The Red Elephants have been navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic with every precaution prescribed by the Georgia High School Association since June 8.

"Very different in the sense that I completely forgot that it was there," Webb said about being mic'd up again. "I love it though. I love watching the segments and watching the other coaches and try to steal other ideas. It's good stuff."
