Police identify man found shot, burned in Duluth

Police detectives in Gwinnett County now have a name for a homicide victim found shot and burned in Duluth on Monday, but at this point there are no reported suspects in the case. 

Cpl. Collin Flynn with the Gwinnett County Police Department on Friday identified the victim as Raul Zapata-Garcia, 47, of Duluth. 

Zapata-Garcia's burned body was discovered Monday, July 20 around 11:30 a.m. by a man walking on a wooded trail near the intersection of Satellite Boulevard and West Lydell Road. Additional investigation uncovered a gunshot wound to the victim's body. At that time, investigators ruled the death a homicide. 

Investigators are asking anyone who might know anything about the case to call police at 770-513-5300. Tipsters who want to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS. The case number is 20-053547.
