An unidentified man is safe after Habersham County emergency personnel rescued him from the rapidly flowing water of the Chattahoochee River in the southern part of the county Sunday.
Habersham County E-9-1-1 received a call to 109 River Run Trail at 4:56 p.m. Sunday reporting a man who was in the river and whose foot had become wedged between rocks, said Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black.
“Initial reports were the subject continued to be pulled underwater,” Black said. “Bystanders had stretched a rope across the rapids, which assisted in holding the subject’s head out of the water until personnel could enter the water.”
Habersham County Emergency Services Engine 12, Medic 12 and Captain 1, along with deputies from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, Habersham Search and Rescue and White County Fire responded.
“Emergency personnel entered the water and were able to free the subject’s foot and assist him out of the water,” Black said.
After being checked by Habersham County Emergency Services personnel, the individual refused transport.
Black said he did not have the name or address of the individual involved.
“This was the fourth or fifth river rescue for Habersham and White counties over the past month or so,” Black said. “Along with the Panther Creek and Tallulah Gorge responses, we continue to see increases in our responses to these areas.”
River Run Trail is located off Heads Ferry Road in southern Habersham County.
