Severe storms overnight leave scattered downed trees and power lines in northeast Georgia

Heavy winds, rain and thunderstorms during overnight hours have left thousands of Jackson EMC, Georgia Power and Habersham EMC customers without power and utility services Thursday morning.

Outage maps for area utility groups show the scattered issues leaving at least 8,000 customers without power, as of 7:00 Thursday morning, May 9.  

Downed trees, limbs and power lines have been reported in several areas of Hall, Habersham, White, Banks, Rabun, and Stephens counties since midnight, with crews from several utility companies working overnight to restore services.

The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thurndstorm Warning for portions of Dawson, South Hall, Forsyth and other north Georgia counties through 8:15 Thursday morning.  A Tornado Watch was issued for most of northern Georgia through 1:00 p.m..
