Coroner: Young woman who died on Panther Creek Trail was from Kennesaw

The cause of death for a woman who died on the Panther Creek Trail in Habersham County Sunday night is pending.

Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire said Ogechukwukamma Chu-Okasia, 23, of Kennesaw is the victim and that further details of her death will be released later, pending an autopsy at the GBI State Crime Lab in Decatur.

Habersham County E-9-1-1 received the call reporting the unresponsive 23-year-old on the trail at 9:41 p.m., said Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black.

“Crews arrived and while removing the patient from the trial sadly she experienced cardiac arrest,” Black said. “Resuscitative efforts were continued, and patient was transported to Habersham Medical Center once removed from the trial. Unfortunately, those efforts were unsuccessful, and the patient did not survive.”

Habersham County Emergency Services, Tallulah Falls Fire Department, Habersham Search and Rescue and Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Department responded to the incident that remains under investigation by the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and Habersham County Coroner’s Office.

Sunday’s call was the second to Panther Creek in 24 hours.

Saturday night, crews from Habersham County Emergency Services, Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Department, Tallulah Falls Fire Department and Habersham Search and Rescue responded to a person on the trail with a medical condition, Black said.

That patient had to be carried out and was flown for care by AirLife Georgia 2.
